Javier Artigas
Javier Artigas
Born in Zaragoza, Javier Artigas began his training at the Escolanía de Infantes del Pilar, studying piano, organ and harpsichord (Special Prize) with J. L. González Uriol and M. Torrent, and taking courses with Radulescu, Alain, Rogg, Houbard and Schnorr.
He performs at the most important organ festivals and is internationally recognised as one of the leading specialists in Spanish historical music. He frequently gives masterclasses and seminars on the interpretation of early music at numerous universities and higher education centres in Europe, Asia and America.
He has been the principal organist at El Pilar in Zaragoza and artistic director of the restoration of the Merklin organ (1854) at Murcia Cathedral. He is organist at the Church of El Carmen in Murcia. A member of the Academy of Fine Arts and ambassador for the city of Zaragoza, he is professor of organ and harpsichord at the Murcia Conservatory of Music, professor at the EsMuc and at the Semaine de l’Orgue Italien in Saorge, among others. He is director of the Daroca International Early Music Course and Festival.
